Center for Animals and Public Policy, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Also a Wildlife Consultant for The Humane Society of the United States.
Sedat Gulen: Statistical Research Engineer.
Mr. Gulen will discuss two systems to possibly minimize deer-vehicle accidents on the USA Roads: The first system uses wildlife reflectors, the second one uses advanced radar sensor systems which detect deer before they cross the roadway and triggers a radar system to alert drivers. He will cover results from Evaluation of Radar (Radio Detection and Ranging) Sensing in Reducing Vehicle-Deer Collisions on the Indiana Toll Road (SPR-2495), sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and Indiana DOT, and Evaluation of Wild-Life Reflectors in Reducing Vehicle-Deer Collisions in Indiana Toll Road I-80.
Samuel E. Wolfe: Road Operations Engineer, Indiana Toll Road Division.
Mr. Wolfe will review The Radar Sensing Approach developed by Sensor Technologies & Systems, Inc. in reducing vehicle-deer collisions on Indiana Toll Road I-80/90.
Peter Muller: President of League of Humane Voters, USA. Vice President of Wildlife Watch and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Computer Science at New York University.
Mr. Muller will speak about community action in changing legislation, including the necessity for political organizing and involvement to change how we deal with perceived wildlife "overpopulation".
Laura Simon: Field Director, Urban Wildlife Program, The Humane Society of the United States.
Ms. Simon will review additional effective non-lethal methods to alleviate human/deer conflicts with a specific focus on how homeowners can protect their gardens and plants from deer browsing.

Objective:
To educate the local government and concerned citizens about the advantages of non-lethal methods for resolving human/deer conflicts in urban and suburban areas. In addition, this event will focus on new legislation necessary to implement these measures.
Venue:
Solon Community Center is located on 35000 Portz Parkway
Solon, OH 44139. The banquet room holds 240 people and will be equipped with projectors for PowerPoint presentations in addition to any other visual aids. Complimentary vegetarian hors d'oeuvres with non-alcoholic beverages will also be provided.
